Guidelines are compiled from the shared experience of A.A. members in various service areas. They also reflect guidance given through the Twelve Traditions and the General Service Conference (U.S. and Canada). In keeping with our Tradition of autonomy, except in matters affecting other groups or A.A. as a whole, most decisions are made by the group conscience of the members involved. The purpose of these Guidelines is to assist in reaching an informed group conscience.<\/p>\n<p>A.A. TRADITIONS AND THE INTERNET<\/p>\n<p>We observe all A.A.\u2019s principles and Traditions on A.A. Web sites.<\/p>\n<p>Anonymity\u2014As anonymity is the \u201cspiritual foundation of all our Traditions,\u201d we practice anonymity on public Web sites at all times.<\/p>\n<p>Unless password-protected and for members only, an A.A. Web site is a public medium, and, therefore, requires the same safeguards that we use at the level of press, radio and film. In simplest form, this means that A.A.s do not identify themselves as A.A. members using their full names and\/or full-face photos. For more information on anonymity online, see the section of this Guideline, \u201cGuarding Anonymity Online.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Attraction not promotion\u2014As our co-founder, Bill W., wrote: \u201cPublic information takes many forms \u2013 the simple sign outside a meeting place that says \u2018A.A. meeting tonight\u2019; listing in local phone directories; distribution of A.A. literature; and radio and television shows using sophisticated media techniques.
